it175 clutch problem

i have a problem with a 78 it175 clutch, just wondering what it could be before i think about pulling the motor down.

theres tension on it and it feels like it works but it does absolutely nothing. i wouldnt think the clutch plates are stuck
as the rest of the motor is a1, gearbox is like new and the bike was being ridden not too long ago.

if anyone has any idea's what it could be let me know. thanks

Whats 'does nothing'? Does it not engage or not disengage?

not sure witch ones witch. i dont have a clutch at all.

 in gear (bike not running) i pull the clutch in and roll it, it doesn't move/clutch doesn't engage, i think.

but it feels like it should work, feels like a normal clutch. i'd say the motors been rebuilt recently, if theres anything someone could have stuffed up.

sounds to me like the plates are stuck together.
drain the oil,
remove the clutch cover,
pull in the clutch lever, zip tie it if you have to,
then pry "ALL" the plates apart with a screw driver to unstick them,
back together with fresh oil and see how it goes after that

I would say vandy is on it ,
But i would just find somwhere to push start the bike ,get it running then pull clutch in and ride around for a while with clutch in should free up .

i've done a good 2 laps of a track with the clutch in just waiting for the plates to unstick, the eventually did.
a mate did the whole of practice on a YZ465 with the clutch in and it didn't unstick itself
he then did the screwdriver trick in the pits before his first race and it ran perfect all day

i thought of that  but dont really have anywhere i can get away with riding it longer than a couple of minutes
and the amount of compression it has wouldnt make it easy to start.. i would probably have better luck starting it then rolling into gear.

Had a TY 250 clutch that would not come free no matter what you did.
Sold it to a guy and left a message not to stab it into gear.
Got home and there was a big dint in me watertank.

Quickish way to break it loose....start in neutral, hop on and get the bike rolling. Put into gear then pull in and hold the clutch lever in. Throttle on and off until the clutch free's itself.

problem solved. only took about 3min, flat out of course.

now i just need to get some road gear. if anyone has a few bits i might need let me know. thanks again

One thing more i had one of these little IT's and had a clutch problem also , turns out that the clutch basket was stuffed , the steel plates had made slight indentations in basket fingers causing the thing to stick myself i would check this out as it is quite common on old bikes. Mine use to free up but then stick up again later . Just a thought
