hi Pokey
ok for what reason/s would a 1mm head shave cause the cylinder studs to pull?

I can remember a TS400 being guided lovingly around the Nats last year that suffered just such an event ;)

The A model has 6 studs  for the head? and those pissy little short studs that screw into the barrel.  Hmmm

Newtons Third Law of motion applies here.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

If we change the forces in the combustion chamber by a head shave or playing with squish bands or fuel types etc, then all those forces place the proportionate extra stress on the other components. Gaskets studs  heat gas flows power.

Just like hitting something with a bigger hammer, somethings gonna behave differently than it did before. good and bad.

When you change one thing in a chain reaction, benefits will not be fully realised unless other parts are ready to recieve them and pass on the benefits. Would you stick a TM400 engine in that bike and still run the same 185 drive chain and expect it not to break?

I would ask myself why up the compression if I dont need to? There is more performance to be found in improving gas flows with a decent pipe matched to good port design and a decent squish band which is one of the things you will change if you shave that head.

I am from the same school as Pokey, high compression in a 2 smoker isn't overly advantageous and to run like that it is very courageous..it's more about flow and keeping that throttle pinned  ;)  ;D

Raising compression is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to gain performance, well sorted cylinder heads are less likely to cause problems.
