Vmx GCR needs to be updated
« on: January 11, 2012, 06:35:51 pm »
It has come to my attention today that GCR  18.7.2 - 18.7.2.1 Table of Machines and Components pre 65
Makes and Models. I notice that OSSA has not been listed, I feel at the start we overlooked it
The first ossa was built in 1951, to be eligible for pre 65  bike and models are
and this mistake need to be changed.
Identification Frame numbers
175s B80001 1961 to 1962
160ct B102601 1963 to 1965
175 sports B150001 1964 to 1965
160t B20001 1964 to 1969
175 se B154 1965 to 1972
There are many more

I don`t understand your comment Billet YZ, this thread is about a model being left out of the GCR, and it needs to be documented, so if a person has this model sitting in his collection
and wonders if his bike would be eligible for racing in the pre 65 class, so he go`s to his trusty MA rule book and see it not listed then he would think its not legel for him to ride it.

i dont think the new 2012 list nay models in any eras any more.  It was removed IIRC, so if its pre 65 then its in the 2012 book by default.
74 Yamaha YZ's - 75 Yamaha YZ's
74 Yamaha  flattracker's
70  Jawa 2 valve speedway's

For sale -  PRE 75 Yamaha MX stuff, frame, motors and parts also some YAM DT1,2,A and Suzi TS bikes and stuff

Hi Ossa, now, I'm NOT a rule expert, but it seems to me that the list of bikes is an inclusive list meaning "this list PLUS any other bikes that were made in correct years and fit the other listed criteria can race".

And the main other listed criteria is suspension travel, carby's, exhausts, etc'

So, although it would good to have the Ossa's in the list the fact that they are not there does not stop one in period trim from competing.

If someone thinks I've got it arse-about please chime in  ;D

Freaky, I have not looked at the latest book, so you have probably answered it better....

Hy Gipps, Having been born in Bairnsdale and having spent 2 or so of my [anciently] early years there I almost qualify as a fellow Gippslander, but I'm really a Sydney "westy' from wayback!

Back to the plot I think you have it summed up pretty well.

However my feeling is, if some machine was built in the period in discussion and has some features radical for the times but is genuinly FROM the times it should be in there.
Obviously some don't agree and the rules reflect that.
My thoughts come from discussions about what constitutes a 'Slider' from the early days where various engine configurations, wheel sizes etc were being raced and winning state and national dirt track championships, but are not recognised as eligible now days.
Not meant to be a thread hi-jack so leave it at that. cheers pancho.
dont follow me i'm probably off line!

Pancho, what you say makes sense, and you can sort of see it in the rules because they try to achieve "the spirit of the period".

A while ago I was lookin' at a 74 Husky CR400, and a friend of mine with a cool head indicated that I might need to budget for a new pipe because snail pipes don't really make the cut.

Not sure I could move to Sydney (or Melbourne), big cities stress me out. Even here in Sale I get mountain withdrawal and we are about 30 mins from the hills, Bairnsdale is maybe only 10 mins to the tracks and trails, much better.

Ossa, how about a 'photo of the bike, sounds like an interesting little critter.

Ossa, that is one pretty bike, don't know much about Ossas but whoever designed that had a good eye, the flow thru tank, seat base, rear guard and side plates, the way the aircleaner fits into the cowling, the centreport engine.

Bet you spend some time on Ebay Spain, sometimes I go there when I am dreamin' of Metrallas, sort of like mechanical se... better not say it.

Post some photo's as its coming along, will be good to see no matter how long it takes.
