!978 XL 250 - what they didn't tell me in school!?
« on: January 18, 2012, 12:57:47 pm »
Hi All

I have a mate that is sniffing around at a 1978 XL 250 that looks to be in fair condition (from the photo's). He will be looking to bring it back to good order for sone vinduro fun and other such nonsense which will include getting it registered again

Other than the standard pitfalls of buying an older bike is there anything else specific to this model bike that we would need to look out for.

Also what legal issues, if any, are there with registering a bike that has been unregistered for a long time (other than standard compliance set up and RWC)

Any feedback is greatly appreciated

Cheers

23 inch front wheel limits tyre choice greatly, heads have 75,000km life span then stuff up the cam bearing (that is if the oil has been changed regularly) but can be saved with needle roller conversion. To licence again requires that it comply with ADR's it had too back when it was new, not current ones. Twin shock XR250 parts inter-change too.
