YZ250E 78 Handlebars were they chrome?

Just wondering if the bars were chrome, black steel, alloy or what. keen to put this bike back to its former glory

There's a brand that vandy put me onto that are a pretty close match. I had them on the 125f that is pictured in the 'stolen' section.
You should be able to find out what they are if you do a search as they've been mentioned on here. You will need to paint them black though. They  come in silver

I bought a new set from Yamaha about six months ago.  You might want to try them first.

If they can't get them, then I may have the last set in existence and I will be asking one meeelyun dollars for them on eBay.  ;D

No, acording to the buyer the police weren't really interested and I think the transport company could have done more. I think he finally got an insurance payout, but it took a couple of months.
I'm keeping my eye open at race meets up here, it won't be leaving the track with whoever brings it, if it does turn up.
