'81 ME460 Kit Bike?
« on: August 13, 2011, 03:18:13 am »
What do you guys think about this bike?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180706446515&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#v4-46

The NOS motor is interesting, but the red triples, hubs and the white fork sliders and swingarm are a personal touch, not one that turns me on, but to each his own.  The price caught my eye for sure.

I just saw the pic of the VIN tag (is it a repro?).  I didn't know Mugen built an '81 ME460 bike for sale, but you learn something everyday.

I don't really like the red hubs and triples. I think the bike is made up from a few parts, a real Mugen bike would have a works handmade swingarm and factory billet forks and triple clamps.. It's basically a CR450 with a Mugen topend and i don't think the Mugen ID decal is genuine either.
Interestingly the price sat at $9,999.99 probably just 1 cent below reserve as though the owners mates bid it up so that the next bid would hit the reserve and the bike will sell... but it didn't sell ;)

Nice looking bike but the centre crankcases are only good for 6 months use then the all the casing behind the clutch basket cracks up and collapses.  Back in '81 both my 450 and Mike Landman's crankcases failed.
