WHAT YOU ARE BIDDING ON IS A ONE OFF CHANCE TO OWN THIS RARE PROTOTYPE CHENEY RIBBY YAMAHA. BUILT AS A ONE OFF BIKE IN 1981, AS FEATURED IN ISSUE NO 229 TRIALS AND MOTOCROSS 16TH OCT 1981. ALSO IN ISSUE NO 34 OF VMX IN 2008.
THE BIKE FEATURES A YAMAHA 465 ENGINE AND WHEELS, SUSPENSION IS CONTROLLED BY THE USE OF AIRMATIC SHOCKS PRODUCED AS ONE OFFS FOR THIS BIKE. THE REAR SHOCK HAS 6" OF TRAVEL AND HOLDS OVER HALF A PINT OF FLUID WITH A PISTON DIAMETER OF 65MM.
BUT IT WAS THE FRONT END WHICH WAS SO INNOVATIVE, THE ITALIAN DESIGNED RIBBY SYSTEM WHICH ALLOWS FOR A FULLY FLOATING FRONT BRAKE , AND SURPRISINGLY LIGHT. OVER 2LBS LIGHTER THAN THE CONVENTIONAL TELESCOPIC FORKS OF THE DAY. SUSPENSION TRAVEL IS 14" FRONT AND REAR.
HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT A BIKE TO BE RACED, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN REBUILT USING ALL ORIGINAL PARTS WHERE POSSIBLE AND IS RACE READY. IT IS A BIKE FOR A SERIOUS COLLECTOR, AS A ONE OFF IT IS A VERY RARE CHENEY AND A SERIOUSLY DESIRABLE BIKE.
