Short Circuit Champions
« on: August 10, 2011, 09:38:04 am »
A list was sent to me of Australian, NSW, Qld and Victorian Short Circuit Title winners and some placegetters from 1957 up to the present day, if any one wants a copy, pm me your email address and I'll send you one, it's an XL spreadsheet.

There are some blank spaces in it and Slides has already filled a couple in, so if you can spot and verify any omissions in the list, Ill pass them on to Trevor.

The list was compiled, from MA and other sources by Ray Smith with help from Jim Scaysbrook and Trevor Harvey aka Fotohound.

Big fields for the modern Aussie DT Titles this weekend at Canberra, 4 grids of 450's, three grids of Outfits. gunna be good !!

Just hang on to the list until I've spoken to Trevor, I'll see him this weekend at Canberra, so I'll get his OK first, I know Ray Smith put a lot into the list so we might have to talk to him before sending it to MA.

The main reason I put it out was to see if anyone can fill in some blanks, Slides already has so let's see how we go.

Amazing bit of  Short Circuit history, hope fully we can add a bit and then its on the record.

i won't forward on till you confirm it's ok directly to me. i was being a bit cheeky as i could not believe MA didn't have all this info.

That would be great, if you could fill in some blanks, Hoony, because if the info isn't gathered now, it'll all get lost, I don't mind collating any info that comes in and passing it back to Trev.

Just send me any additions separately and I'll pass them to Trev and add them to the list here.
Thanks
Foss

There are some legendary Short Circuit names on that list.
The 1970 titles at St Kilda SA was where the toilet seat tradition began.
Terry "Pummo" Poole found the old toilet seat at the waste dump next to the track and placed it around Billy Mac's neck at the presentation ceremony.
Rightly so, Billy did the same for Terry at Amaroo Park a few years later.
I wonder if that seat is still in existance?
I might start the search with Pooley.

Thanks for the list Foss. I've passed it on to my Dad who rode in QLD back in the '60's. Maybe he can add some to it.
Cheers

it's great that this history will be preserved. i have a similar list of MX Nationals that was sent to me which Drakie started/acquired.

there are lots of gaps in it, we should do same.

I've got the complete motocross and partial road race lists but the dirt track list would be a great thing. I'd live to see it Foss if possible. I too tried to get a motocross list from MA years ago and I got the impression at the time that it was too hard for them to get off their arses and look. I ended up getting it from the AMCN magazine guys of all places.
'68 Yamaha DT1 enduro, '69 Yamaha 'DT1 from Hell' '69 DT1'Dunger from Hell, '69 Cheney Yamaha 360, 70 Maico 350 (2 off), '68 Hindall Ducati 250, Hindall RT2MX, Hindall YZ250a , Cycle Factory RT2MX flat tracker, Yamaha 1T250J, Maico 250 trials, '71, Boyd and Stellings TM400, Shell OW72,750 Yamaha

In the ACU days, the front of the 'GCR's always had a record of the title holders in all disciplines of MC sport going back to the start of the ACU if I remember rightly. I always look for that stuff with each new issue of the 'MOMs.
cheers pancho.
dont follow me i'm probably off line!

Carlos reminded me today that he actually scored another 3rd at the 1970 titles, in the Senior ( 500cc ).
He can't recall who came 2nd, too many head knocks between then & now.
