RM80 year model ?
« on: August 16, 2011, 02:42:51 pm »
A mate has just bought an RM 80, water cooled with drum brakes, frame # rc11c-100587.
Would anyone know what year model this would be ?, had a look thru Lukes stuff but can't find it. ???

While i'm at it, is there an easy way to remove seat stencilling & how hard is it to re stencill.

Thanks..Reg

I think 1983 was the first year these came with watercooled motors.
They continued up to and including 1985 model with drum brakes.
The numbers don't match anything I have for Suzuki 80s.'The numbers aren't worn or rubbed out at all?
The numbers I have, read; 1RD13A-D-100001 for 83, up to 1RD13A-E-100001 for 84.
Unless someones put one of the above motors in a 1981 model frame?? Even then the vin number would read 1RD11A-B-100001
I used to drink a lot.
I still do,but I used to,too.

My '84 had the frame number RC11C-105407. Damn hard to find any number reference or decent pics to decipher the '83-'85 RM80's. Pretty sure the '83 had black frame, the '84 had a blue frame and the '85 had blue frame and gold rims as opposed to silver for the '83/'84.

RM80Z '82 was last of the air-cooled.
RM80D '83 was first water-cooled and drum
RM80G '85 was disc-brake.

I have not (yet) got much info on these 'late model' things!

there is a bit of info here:
  http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Suzuki_RM80
see if it looks like anything there.

seat stencilling usually gets stained into the material and is not going to come off nicely.
easier to start anew.

Luke, the RM80XF (RM80F) was the '85 model and it was still drum brake. The '86 G model was near a total redesign including new engine, frame, suspension and styling.

Thanks guy's, frame # is correct & it has a black frame, so it looks like an 83.

Great to see you back Doc, both you & Luke are a great help to us Suzi freaks.
