drilling holes in airbox

so is it recommended for better performance i have three in mine but im thinking of covering them over seen as ive just spent $400 on the top end becouse dust was getting in. its got mesh behind the holes but i dont think you need all that air do ya. if i do cover them over will it run to rich

You should work on stopping "the dust getting in" before even thinking of making a way to improve airflow

as for "better performance" I doubt it as the dust gets in..... not good. If it is a 2 stroke then running rich is better than running too lean.

i dont want to improve the air flow they were already there. i dont know weather i should cover them over or not would it make it run rich

what bike and motor size?

air box holes will make the airflow a bit better on most early model bikes thats why you run road race bikes with no filters. if you dust an engine it would be most likley that you haven't done the air filter service properly makes no difference 4 stroke or 2 stroke if dirt gets through the filters the engine will die. and 2 or 4 stroke even huge diesel engines will run rich with a restriction in the air intake rich is to much fuel for the amount of air available. just like rideing up to the to of the mountain as you go higher it gets richer. and dont forget if you have a quick 2 stroke or four stroke ie MX bikes they require huge amounts of maintenance.

its an 82 rm250z and yes its partly my fault i hadnt been putting a rim of grease on the filter but the cages that close on to the filters were warped at the top and not sealing properly. but all fixed now

so if you want holes in your airbox how do ya keep the dust out.

Might be a silly Q zman but the holes are not after the filter are they? . because if your filter is sealed you can even use a uni pod filter no air box .
