Tim, to my knowledge there has never been a protest in VMX here. We are self governing (we as riders keep an eye on each other's bikes) and a quiet word would be all it would take for a rider to remedy a problem. The Kiwi VMX boys do not ask for much and yet put a great series on for all to participate in. Why would we as riders want to fork it up by cheating or disrespecting their minimal rules they have laid out for all of us??
I actually have a big problem trying to understand how a fellow vmxer would want to stop another fellow vmxer from riding. All I could say to that is "get over it, it isnt about you, VMX stands for Vintage MotoX, not veteran motocrosser".
I appreciate you concern with safety, and the training you have undertaken, I believe that the training you've done should be taught in schools as essential life skills.
By not being club members/organization or having a governing body, we are just a bunch of blokes riding old motocross bikes and having fun.

GMC, maybe you do as members of MA control yourselves, so I hope the noise control thing(96db) that has been talked about by members in here never comes to fruition.
Yes we maybe laid back, but it does seems to work. I am certainly not telling you how to run meetings or that your system is wrong, it just seems like you have allot of red tape to cut through. Could it be that if you didnt have to ride at purpose built MX tracks that some of the older bikes and riders would have greater numbers and would enjoy it more? Just a question.

So about the bike on fire, unless there is an extinguisher close at hand what could be done? Or are you saying that because it was the day before the event and there werent any officials nothing could be done? You have lost me. I'm not sure of you point about the fire, but yes I feel for the guy(rider) and the owner of the bike but at the end of the day this is an accident, and as the old saying goes  "Shit Happens".

What sort of race meeting cannot get enough flaggies or fire marshalls???? Most of them, smart arse. Look last time you went to a meeting or even the ten meetings prior did you volunteer to help !? Answer most likely %99 NO,  You would have been forced to do the slightest of duties!!!  fork I get seriously pissed off with racing bludgers that can slag off at race meetings and  officials but would not even forken well fart to help out. Do you have a MA officials license??? have you ever shown another person how to operate safety equipment properly!(Do you forking well know yourself!!)   I have,  I do and I am and I have a up to date officials license from Steward  on down.
  What sort of show we running down here ????? tell me where else in Australia there is a dedicated Motorcycle Sports complex like Broadford.  Now Piss off and take a good look around.

i have little to add timbo other than a decent road race meet should be able to supply at least track marshals, never mind the basic Ambo, as we paid to have it on standby at the track as part of the race fee.  When i road track we also had the dedicated flag marshall's association onside, we donated to and they supplied members and we toped it up. 

As far as a dedicated sports complex half your luck, but what road track should be approved by MA officals if it cant even supply the right type of  fire extinguishers to put out a basic petrol fire.   You can only assume its a track ride day and every one is just lending a hand, but what would have happened if it had blown up ? or the ridder was down on the track and run over and killed which nearly happend in the video ? last race you would be having there for a while while the incident was reveiwed. 

that was a disarster waiting to happen, if your on that commitee or panel you should be rolling that video out and planning how that incedent could be better handled in the future, if one more thing had gone wrong in the shot i would have been surprised and could have been tragic in so many ways, then you guessed it more "official dom" will come down on two wheelled sports because some smart arse consultants can show we cant organise ourselves.

just for the record i supply my misses for flags at most events i ride, and i have assisted our club on come and try days, and more so help when we have the kids rider testing days and log book start up/learn to rides, and yes thats an hour each way.

most fires are statred by CFS volunteers.  ;)

so what was the question ?

ps............ i Still feel for the bloke, that's got to hurt.  :o

Hi DJ, Yes we do have more red tape over here & it is frustrating, the "KISS" sytem should always be kept in mind.
I totally agree about the natural terrain tracks, we do need more of these,  but we have limited track availabilty, despite the size of our country.
I think the Victorian races would be about half natural terrain, half purpose built tracks. It may be the soil & climate that is in your favour over their. The natural terrain tracks here can easily suffer from dust if the conditions aren't just right, & interesting terrain can sometimes be difficult to get a water truck around.

The fire at the enduro story was just an experiance I thought I would share,  it was about half way through a 40 min loop miles from anything & no one was to blame. Their was no real moral to it, if anything, shit happens & sometimes their ain't nothing you can do.

Well to answer the question, my first impulse of thinking was; "Rider got out ok, flags out, hey we aint got an extinguisher near big enough for this mess - if it happened at my place I would have got on my track grooming tractor & front bladed the horrid burning mess to one side....oops! now we got a grass fire too!".

I don't know, by the look of that crash I reckon you'd need an aircraft style foam pumper truck, maybe some big bore Co2 extinguishers could cope.

I remember many years ago racing buckets at Ohaaki airbase tarmac & a guy went down big time. The fuel cap got ripped off, tank contents unloaded as the machine made a shower of sparks sliding down the road. He had some bad burns to his legs but otherwise ok. Not sure how the Feds felt about us crash & burning on the airforce tarmac but they sure had the gear to deal with it.

Ah, then there was the time I must have been 14/15 yrs & the 305 Honda Dream/nightmare. Just picture it, leaking fuel tap onto crankcases, no headers - blue flame out the ports = BURN...no worries just ripped off my shirt & beat out the fire!.

I had one of those Honda Dream's as my first bike, I always referred to as my nightmare too. They had some sort of cavity in the top of the crankcase under the carbies. I got mine in a million pieces from a guy who had stripped it because of a fire. Apparently the cavity filled up when the carbies leaked & then it backfired & so I got it cheap.
It eventually became a pile of molten scrap after a bushfire went through my parents place around 1980.
