Fork seal sources.

Maybe I'm a tight-arse, but $40 for a pair of non-genuine seals seems pretty bloody rude to me....

So I went down to the local bearing shop and bought some for $12/pair.

Trouble is, this only works for 38mm forks - they couldn't help me with seals for 34, 36 or 43mm forks.

Is there a cheaper solution? Or do we all just grit out teeth and pay $40 for $12 worth of bits?

a while back i got 2 pair of 34mm from ebay for what i thought was a cheap price,
can't remember what i paid as it was a while back, so excited by my supposed score, i told my yammie parts guy and he said he could have done the deal cheaper.
34mm is still readily available at a good price, don't know about the others.

I'm with you Nathan. fork seals are just a pain in the arse, that includes paying and fitting them. The YZ125X fork seals from Yamaha are no more, so I found out but we searched for a close match and they have worked very well so far, I cant remember the brand or price but I know I would have given my parts guy shit (since he gives me shit..."what old shit do you want now"?). Sometimes we have to just grin and bare it.
  Its funny how we can bitch and moan about the cost of some parts for the old bikes but its soon forgotten when we are riding them.

gee i get some weird looks and smart arse remarks when i go in to get some parts for my bikes at the local shop....how many other people get this sort of treatment where you ask for a part, the young bloke goes wandering out the back ruffling about then  a couple of blokes start giggling then he walks back with a grin and says no we dont have that but i can get it..it will take two weeks  on back order from jurrasic park... bloody smart arses...

gee, i must be lucky! as my parts guy enjoys the challenge of digging up old yammie parts as it takes him back to a time he obviously has fond memories of and he rattles of part and model numbers straight off the top of his head and is rarely wrong. he's also had more than a few trips over to yamaha japan, courtesy of yamaha that i'm sure have only helped his level of service.
he just quietly smiles when anyone invovled in classic bikes walks through the door.

Vandy, my parts guy is very good and it is just joking, he finds parts all over the place and gives me ph numbers so I can buy them myself so he doesnt make any money out of those buys. He also has an old KDX250 with a KXa5 barrel on it, so he is very VMX friendly. Its just our way of saying 'hello' and I'm sure he likes the challenge of finding "old shite"

why in the bloody hell would you want one of them bikes for....was another remark when i told him i need a new clutch cable for my 500... to race in the pre85 class in vmx thats why i need it...
