XL350 swingarm help

I want to put an XL350 swingarm on a 72 XL250 but im not sure which one is the right/best/longest one to use. There are plenty on ebay but i want to get the right one.

I found this info

XL350 K0 -  52100356000B – superceeds to 52110356000B – up to serial #1022224
XL350 K1 -  52110356000B
XL350 76, 77, 78 -  52110385000ZA and on this one I notice it has pillion peg mounts

I assume K0 is 74 and K1 is 75? I dont know much about Honda model system.

What would be the difference between K0 and K1 swingarm?

Are they all exactly 25mm longer than the stock 72 250? Where abouts is the length difference? Just between the pivot and shock bolt hole or are they longer after the shock bolt?

Leith,my Xl350 (pre 75) s/arm is 500 from centre pivot bolt to arm end,shock mount is 415 from pivot bolt centre
        my 77 xl350 (with pillion pegs) is 510 from pivot point,shock mount is 430 from pivot bolt centre,hth!,

Ok thanks. So it looks like i will be after a 74 model one then as it would be good to keep it pre 75 legal i think. Im wondering what length shocks i should use with this swing arm. My forks have stuffed chrome so i might can those and look for 73/74 CR250 or 74 XL350 forks if they give a bit more travel, or even just a bit more length would be good. This bike is pretty much well and truely suffed as it was left outside in the open for over 20 years or so with no clutch cover on and no oil in the motor so basically i am working with a frame and going from there. If im lucky the head and barrel will be usable but i will still need a whole motor really. Its a shame because the bike was all original too. Just as well the bike cost nothing.

This one i reckon has 380mm shocks from my calculations


But i reckon the 72 forks would not match that.

I just ran a tape quickly over the XL350 swingarm that is in my '72-'73 XL250 and compared it to the original swingarm from the 250.

Swingarm pivot to centre of rear axle slot, XL250 = 435mm, XL350 = 460mm (give or take a mm or so, my eyes are going as I get older).

Swingarm pivot to lower rear shock mount XL250 = 385mm, XL350 = 415mm.

I checked my 72 swingarm and its 390mm from the pivot to the shock bolt but thats measuring it on the bike with a long steel ruler but i feel its pretty acurate and matches what someone said about the 350 being 25mm longer and 415 is exactly 25mm longer.
Have you got some 74 XL350 forks Colin? I want to know what the differences are between those an the 72 250 forks.

Ok 72 250 forks

780mm - from the bottom end of the alloy slider at the flat where the studs screw into to the top of the chrome leg not inc the fork cap
350mm - from the bottom end of the alloy slider at the flat where the studs screw into to the top edge of alloy slider
428mm - length of chrome fork leg from ege of alloy slider to the top of the leg not inc fork cap
413-414mm - from edge or fork wiper to top of fork leg not inc fork cap

measurements are within 1mm accuracy.

So how do these compare to the 350?

With a few more lights turned on I remeasured the XL250 swingarm and got the same as you have Leith.

I am sure that I do have a set of XL350 forks, but my problem is I have 5 or 6 sets of early XL forks and I don't know which are the 250 or 350 forks? They are buried way up the back of the shed and will take some digging to find them. if I get a chance on Sunday I will have a look if no one else can come up with an answer.

Ok thanks. I only have some spring data in the Cycle serve manual that may be able to ID them.
