While the little SL is cool, the thing I'm really happy about is that I've FINALLY got an 87 CR125. It was on Ebay as an 89, with a dead engine and wrong front wheel. Best $750 I've ever spent on a currently useless POS (no, really).

So now the questions start...
1. Anyone making repro seat covers? (I've already been told that genuine is NLA)
2. Availability of plastics (repro or aftermarket)?
3. The big end has seized, the piston seized AND the bottom end (not the main bearings) has locked up all at once... WTF?
4. When's pre-90 racing going to start in NSW?

The CR-RH is one of the two "Must Have" bikes in my world (the other is a YZ125A), so anything else that comes home has to be either A) dirt cheap or B) a YZ125A.
Apart from anything else, the shed is full!

Needs a shock rebuild, engine rebuild, and the right front wheel (or a gold rim at least). I've got some new blue fork boots for it, and will do the seat cover in blue (even if it's just plain blue).
Hopefully, it will be both race ready and pretty for under $2000, but frankly I don't give a shit how much it costs - I've wanted one of these since they were new and now I've got one.
And until pre-90 racing starts in NSW, I reckon I'll race it with the moderns at ACTMCC days. Yeah, I'll get hosed, but did I mention that I've wanted one of these for 20 years?

I have some Honda nos pistons,if you can maybe take a photo i may be able to match up one  (pistons without boxes/part no.'s)

        that picture of the honda scares me, a combination of items together that can cause tears.

hey nathan you sure its an 87 model...to me it looks like an 88 model just by looking at the frame colour and plastics.. they all went that pinky red in 88...

Yeah, it's an 87.
The photo is a bit misleading, but it's actually the older orangey-red, rather than the blood red of the 88/89. Plus its got the older ATAC power valve (rather than the better/later HPP type), and the slots in the radiator shrouds (rather than the rounder holes of the 88).
And the blue shock spring.

The white number plates and red fork boots do confuse the issue though.

Yes, I did spend some time researching this before forking out my hard-earned.

you the man nathan - i was hoping that we (ie, ACT region types) would start to move towards a pre-90 class....or at least just have a few pre-90 bikes to race against/with.  i'm dead keen to get an 86-89 CR250 (always forget which one/s of these are good/bad/indifferent...) to race.  i really like the late eighties styling for cr's.....plus you get decent suspension and brakes to boot.  and, yeah, we could a bit more damage to the over-35 crowd at act....who now all have '07 450F's to a man....

As I understand it, if you're looking for a late-80s CR250 to race, this is the order:
87
86
.
89
.
.
88

They all had great motors, the real difference is the suspension/handling.

According to the legend, the 87 250 was, like the 87 125, one of the all time great bikes.

i reackon i saw one of them there cr125 at Mr bike dismantlers in St Agnes, SA call em and ask probally still got the motor in it, might save you some time rebuilding

hey hoony i couldve picked up a 1983 model cr250rd at the cessnock swap meet for $600 complete but not goin..ol mate reckons all it needed was a new carby...just another one of those ones that has slipped through the fingers....i was too slow...

any CR from the 80's is a bargain at $600, someone got a good deal, sorry you missed out.
