My Elstar.
« on: May 30, 2011, 11:43:03 am »
I removed the rear wheel to turn the tyre 'round and discovered that one side of the left lower suspension brace had broken off the swinging arm.
So since my ability to weld any-way other than down-hand with my stick welder is very limited I removed the swinging arm first.
After some difficulty in removing the through bolt, it turns out that one bush had stuff all rubber left in it and the other's not well either.
I tried auto suppliers speciallising in suspension parts but when I started talking inches instead of mm they lost interest.
I need- 2 off bushes. 1"outer steel case dia. 1/2" inner diameter of crush sleeve. Overall outer length 1"1/2", crush sleeve length 1"1/4"
All before the next Nepean! any ideas?
There are ways it can be done using nolathane and thrust washers but like barnesy said 'there aint nuthin like the original.'
 cheers pancho

I picked up 2 bushes today from Express Ind. Supplies @ Padstow
 part No. S241 Mackay.
Had them cut to length on a lathe by a friend.
It says on the pack Holden Commodore [early] HD/WB.
cOST $14:00 Each.  How about that!
 cheers pancho.
