What do you mean wont go into gear....does it make a graunching sound?

Idle must be a low as possible. Also try pushing the bike when engaging drive to help the dogs engage without graunching the dogs.  Cable adjustment is important there should be about 1mm free play in the cable when in the engaged position. The engagement is achieved by a spring behind the sliding gear with dogs. If the spring is sacked out it may not be pushing hard enough or if the dogs are rounded off it may not stay engaged.

Let us know more of the symptoms.

yeh makes a gear against gear grinding sound. it does go in sometimes. does not jump out at all. got idle low. must be that spring behind the sliding gear sacked out.

Sounds like a strong possibility. Its a good idea to not leave the bike sitting in the garage with the drive cable pulled in. Leave it engaged in gear to help stop the spring losing tension. Also maybe check that the shaft the lever turns for the sliding gear rotates freely and the brass brake shoe that rubs against the clutch drum also turns freely. Makes the springs job easier. Good luck
