street trackers.
« on: May 16, 2011, 10:26:13 pm »
With all of this talk of cafe racer Metisses elsewhere on the forum I thought I'd post these sweet late Triumph powered street trackers that Bill Forsyth sent me. I especially like the So-Cal Miler bike which is very similar in look to my own Trackmaster Benelli 650 street tracker project. I reckon these things are uber cool, just the thing for cruising to your favourite cafe for a Sunday morning long black and croisant.

As I mentioned in the other thread, those engines would go great in the Metisse.  Like the idea of the Benelli 650, that's something different.

Au contraire Madamoiselle Alison, I reckon that Honda 750 4 tracker would make a very cool coffee shop cruiser, fitted with lights and street tackle. ;D It'd be a hell of a lot easier to live with than on the dirt :o

I could have used an XS650 Yamaha or my 500 Trumpy but when the Benelli motor was offered to me I couldn't resist as it fitted right in to my love of doing things a bit differently. The inspiration is Gene Hartline who rode a factory backed Benelli Tornado powered Trackmaster on the AMA circuit back in the early seventies. I contacted Gene who lives in Colorado, and he's been inspirational in advising me along the way. I was originally building the bike as a legit pre '75 racer but I'm too old for that kind of stuff now so the bike's now morphing into a streeter. That now allows me to use non period parts for the look and performance I want. The frame's a replica Trackmaster I bought of eBay 10 years or so ago that was originally built for a 650 unit Triumph. The forks are 43mm R6 Yamaha in CR 500 Honda triple clamps. The wheels are magnesium Morris, the 19" front from an XR750 Harley, the 18" rear from a Kawasaki Z1r Superbike. I've also got a set of Yamaha wheels as shown in the photo and a set of 19" Barnes wire wheels  so I'll use what looks best, the Morris wheels are leading thre race ATM......the rest of the build is continually changing as I try different stuff. The flame job tank is now on my 360 Yamaha tracker but I've got some others to choose from including a cool (but dinged) alloy tank similar to the above So-Cal special.
Here's a photo in very early mock up state and a photo of the inspiration bike after it was found in a shed in Melbourne after being imported and forgotten. It's back in Colorado with its builder now. The bottom photo is the original late 60's Hartline Benelli.

From where I am looking you wont need that starter roller any more :o

The way I see it, all you will need is a "jump start"
Luxury equipped, dicky starting ankle or not ;D

That's one of the reasons the Benelli got the nod over the XS650 and Trumpy Mick. Plus it's something different and kinda exotic.
I'll still need that roller though...you're forgetting my seven other bikes, nearly all of them big bore two strokes! ;D
