Five seconds of fame for our little town
http://www.fullnoise.com.au/The Striker Crushing and Screening Australian Supermoto Championships will be held this Saturday and Sunday at the Kostecki Motorplex in Collie, WA.
Competitors from around Australia and Europe will begin practice on Friday afternoon at the 1.2km circuit, which has had a 400m dirt section added plus some tight-radius bitumen corners to suit the technical style of supermoto racing.
The final touches were made to the circuit this week.
Championship hosts the Supermoto Club of WA describe the circuit as world class.
Headlining the list of competitors is reigning Australian supermoto champion Italian Davide Gozzini, who finished second in the World Supermoto Championships last weekend on his 747 Motorsport TM450SMX.
Gozzini, who will be riding a locally-prepared Franzone TM450SMX, will be joined by British supermoto ace Christian Iddon, aboard a Crushing and Mining Equipment KTM450SMR.
Both overseas riders have brought with them some trick components to fit to locally-prepared bikes which they will be racing.
Eastern States competitors include Bo Laing on a Yamaha YZ450 and Cameron Stronach on a Kawasaki KX450.
The best from the west include Liam Robertson on a YZ450 and Brett Stewart on a TM450SMR.
About 40 competitors have entered.
The circuit has had 100m of bitumen added to it that created another four corners, taking the total number of corners per lap to 15
The dirt section is made from a hard-packed road-base material and has three table-top jumps and two small kickers, plus bermed corners and undulating terrain.
The Supermoto Club of WA acknowleges the generous support and sponsorship of B&J Catalano; Robbo's Contracting; Coates Hire; Coalcliff Hire; PV & BJ Anderson; Healthway WA; Fulton Hogan; Anthony Garic and Phil Thomson in the construction of the track and help with hosting the championships.
Full catering and a bar will be available at the circuit.
