xr500 balance shafts. can just leave out?

82 xr 500 balance shafts. can i just take them out? i thought it would help the engine rev quicker if removed. will it vibrate or grenade? anyone have any experience? ta

K20, I recently scored a DR 500 engine that had been raced on road racing.
Both balance shafts and the kick starter shaft have been removed.
I haven't actually ridden it yet but that won't be far away so I'll keep you posted.

Ive left them out on 250 engines. Give it a try and see. Honda are generously engineered so I dont think it would cause a major failure.
Current bikes. KTM MC 250 77 Husky CR 360 77, Husky 82 420 Auto Bitsa XR 200 project. Dont need a pickle just need to ride my motorcickle

yeh let me know how the dr500 runs. slakewell, with the 250 did it rev quicker or vibrate more? your thoughts before and after? thanks

On the XR It reved quicker for sure only good for motorcross, With 250 XL motors I turn down the flywheel allot and leave the balance shaft in.
