Thanks Jim & Mick, I thought it could've been seen as a hijack.
My thinking was to find a stock frame to fit a 2 valve Jawa into for pre 65.
Sorry Alison we're speaking in code.

Ariel duplex frames  were pretty good , had a much better swing arm than Beesers, did race both types before I saw the light, bought an AJS single bar frame fitted with a 5 stud JAP, that was OK , but took the JAP out and fitted that to a Paul Sly speedway frame , and put an Ajay motor back in and used it as me first trail bike !!. saw a few specials based on the AJS duplex frame from the twin.

This is the Ajay I was talking about in the last post , about  1976

I bought it from Lee Roebuck fitted with a 5 stud JAP, it was Brian Bollin's from Goulburn dirt tracker,
It is a genuine Compy frame , has the right tank , footrests etc, I fitted an iron barrel motor and rounded up headlight , tail lights , dual seat  etc and used it on the road and trails.
Elaine used to ride this as well, wish we still had it !!

By the way, my old Ariel slider that Jim has , is based on an Ariel duplex frame.
Will try to find a photo of me 350 Ariel duplex ,

OK , Found it !! apologise for the quality but this is the only photo of this bike that survived the fire.

In the photo the bike is under construction , it is an alloy head , iron barrel, about 1957 350 Ariel in an Ariel duplex frame , motor with Sid Willis piston and valves, Art Senior cam and followers, steel flywheels etc.
I guess it gives a good idea of what we had to do to get a race bike BITD.

Photo was taken at Menai, less than a K from where Jim lives now, all bush and chook farms in those days !!

I conned the  Shire grader driver to carve out a quarter mile oval under the power lines next door.

Yep, yer right there about the Ajay, Mick , last of the jampots, middle fifties , rode the thing all over the top end of the Abercrombie river valley , fishing and all that sort of stuff, surprising how good it was as a trail bike.
The XR !! Without a doubt one of , no , the worst, most uncomfortable tow cars  we ever had , had all the good gear , factory fitted GS pack , slushbox , laydown seats, extractors etc, etc, lights used to just go out on their own, zilch , nada , zero , nothing at all , no lights at 90mph on the straights near Griffith is just a tad un-nerving, especially with a trailer with three bikes on the back.
AAh well, those were the days.
Will have some Classic pix from Canberra K & Q Dirt track and the results later today.
