Gooday from SA
« on: February 09, 2011, 08:48:19 pm »
Hi all,
Raced Motorcross back in the mid 70s to late 80s.
Did a few enduros and the 24 hour Trial 4 times until an accident in my last attempt left me with a total knee reconstruction.
Competition was out the window and I drifted in to classic motorcycles following my father in to the BSA owners Club of SA (He was a founding member).
I now have an A10 650, A65 650 and a B34 500.
Also aquired a Bultaco SDT MK5 which sits in the shed complete with spare frame and engine.
Bought that when I was 17 for $500.00. I am now 49 so it has sat untouched for quite a while.
Have been watching the VMX scene for a while now and keep spotting bikes I used to race and slowly the fever has built (you know what I am talking about) until last weekend took the plunge and bought a YZ250E Yamaha.
This was the first motorcross bike i ever bought brand new with my own money back in 1978 from Southcott Yamaha (long gone but not forgotten).
So now it begins, back in the shed getting her in a fit state to get back to where she belongs. On the track.
Cheers
Trev

Hello Trevor, nice to hear from someone else in SA. Hope to catch up with you at a meeting/start line in the not too distant future.

Regards,
Nathan (HBS)

I did ride road trials in the early 80s, first on XR250 Hondas for Honda World and then a KDX200 until the knee injury.
Best result was 3rd in the 250s one year in the Robertstown 2 day.
Also won 2 years straight the Velocette MCC Pony Express at Clarendon with my brother.
He has just bought a new Husqvarna TE510.
He was (still is) considerably quicker than me.
Is anyone aware of an active VMX club in SA?
Cheers
Trev
