Honda CR 250 1978
« on: February 12, 2008, 04:19:56 am »
Hi
I managed to buy a imperfectly restored Honda 250. The bike is an absolute runner however too much bling ( all 100% of it) . I have managed to get a fully restored set of Fox REAR shocks. I am now looking for good examples of original Honda's that I could look to copy. Please help with some photo's
I will in due course place a picture on the web, however right now to much bling and too many stickers that are not period. I will settle with an original FMF discreetly positioned on the bike.
To anybody that may be looking for a watercooled (about 1980/ 81) Mugen barrel and head I have one. I woud look to swop it for either a set of Simmons front forks or alternatively an aircooled Mugen barrel and head.Any takers ? :) :) :)

Hi crabman not totally original but I have 2 79's we race up here in Brisvegas and I have built them to my liking, both have later forks (the one in the picture has 81 250 forks) so similar to the period best at that time, both have fox shocks and GMC pipes (have standard pipes but the GMC looks and go better) Now also has original front guard in place of preston pretty guard.

Very nice bike. Thank you for sharing your pics. I think I am going to put on a set of 1983 CR 480 FORKS - maybe I can have them powder coated yellow kinda like the old Simons 43 MM FORKS that were used as an after market hop up.
Thanks once agin. I will post a photo in due course. My plan is to race a 1974 cr 250, a 1983 CR 480 and a 1978 CR 250 at our next race meeting in South Africa.
PS you guys are all invited. See the web site www.edirt.co.za  forum vintage racing. Grabouw June 2008

No worries mate, the twin to this bike has the 83 250 (same as 480) forks and they are better units and can purchase form the states from around 100 US + shipping for a good set. I also have a 74 250 and 82.83 480 and 84 500 so we share the same passion for bikes.

Nice bikes but the Evolution gestapo over here would deem your bikes ineligible because of the 43mm forks being from a single shock bike.
