Im not 100% sure but I dont think 390's came out in MX trim
In 81 , 82 they MXer's were 495's and in late 79, 80 420's 78 were 400's

We raced one (1981 390GS) in MX a couple of years ago and it was a good thing. The bike and rider actually won quite a few VIPER races.
Cheers,

My guess after having a good look It's a early 81 model , It still has the old style barrel and head which was swapped for the newer style like 81 , 250's mid 81.
If the motoplate and chrome on the forks is all OK it's about the right money.

I buy my parts on ebay and have a few saved sellers who seem to wreck alot of these type of bikes. There are a few tricks that only a few seem to know.
The clutch is hopeless and needs to be replaced with Honda plates and a few mods. Brad Lewis has some new parts. Yamaha 490 rod's fit this model. The rear shocks even if there ok don't work as good as the new Gazzi's and if they need rebuilding will cost more than new Gazzi's. A well set up one of these are a gun bike and very underrated.
Look for 9 litre MX tank on ebay.
