Throttle cable advice needed - 75 RM125
« on: February 16, 2011, 01:00:12 pm »
Installed a 34mm carb on the RM125M, now need a throttle cable. Obviously an S cable is the go, but anyone know if something else might also fit to open up the options? Say 125A/B or 250A/B?

Thanks for that. But I just checked eBay again and good old MotionPro make cables that look like they'll work so I'll give one of them a go.

Thing to watch for with the genuine RM cables is the inner lengths Graeme. Some carbs had the high top caps and some also used little doover that screws inside the slide for the cable to fit into. There's a few differing sizes that all but appear the same thing. Depends also on the throttle and tubes used as some of the 80/100/125 were quicker action than the larger capacity although again these are externally the same in appearance ;) I'd reckon try the stock cable to gauge the length needed then go play match up ;)

Yes, that's the issue. The stocker fits the high top carb but the inner length isn't quite enough for the larger slide and it's housing, although the cap is lower. Strangely the cable I have does not appear to be a stock M model cable. As far as I can tell, the 76/77 cable appears to be what I need. The MotionPro one is claimed to fit 76/77/78/79 varieties of PE/RM with the larger carbies, and *looks* like what I need, and at about $20 landed shouldn't break the bank if it's not right. Luckily I have several spare throttle/twistgrip assemblies so reckon one will fit.

We shall see.
