and a biggee --Darwin motorcycle Club announces major sponsors for 2010 Kamfari
Posted: Tuesday, 16th February, 2010 : 8:11 PM - - 557 Reads
Channel 9 and NT Motorcycle Centre have been awarded co naming rights for the 2010 Kamfai mud race.

The event will be known as ‘NT Motorcycle Centre / Channel 9 Kamfari 2010’

Kamfari is a five hour race for senior bike and quad riders through mud, slush and bush. It takes it’s toll of rider and machine with usually only 50% of riders finishing the event.

Event director Clint Holmes said that each year the event just gets better and better. Last year’s ‘Jail break edition’ at the Gunn Point Prison Farm saw the most riders and spectators the club had seen for quite a while.

“I put most of this down to the location ( riders were riding in and out of windows and doors of the old jail buildings ) and the excellent build up story and coverage that Channel 9 gave us”

This has created a surge of interest from sponsors and southern riders.

Clint stated that this years event won’t be at the prison farm and is keeping the new location under his hat for the time being.

Previous 4 time Kamfari bike winner Brad ( Wonka ) Williscroft is unable to attend this years race due to KTM team commitements, but Australian pro Enduro rider; Jehi Willis will be riding and hoping for a podium finish aboard his Husqvarna.

There are rumoured to be more southern riders setting their sights on this years race but they have not committed at this early stage.

Prize money for the event has risen to $5,000.00 total, and there are trophies for outright and all classes.

We're nearly set for the club day this Sun. I've got to layout the mini enduro track on Saturday but I'll just use part of the track we used for our extreme enduro late last year.
The barrel racing and MX track will only take a few hours to set and it's all go for Sunday
We have at least four vintage bikes for the day, TM125, YZ125C, YZ250D and XT500. We had to find two "victims" to ride for us. Fingers crossed for more bikes on the day.

The Kamfari should be good this year. A new location but unfortunately Brad Williscroft won't be here, on the other hand someone else gets a chance to win. I'm not saying him not attending is a good thing as he is incredible to watch.

I'm planning to ride the event this year, I don't expect any sort of result but just to finish would be great.

We had our sign on day today. It was a bit hot, 33-35 degrees and high humidity but a good day all the same.
We only had three old bikes on the track and I'm hoping to get some photos given to me this week. Someone got the three of us hitting the first corner side by side.

Yesterday was set up day. I weighed myself when I got home and I'd lost just over 3kg through the day. The worrying part is that I drank 5 L of water!!!!!!!! :o

Brad Williscroft and his faithful KTM 450 EXC have made it four consecutive titles in a row in the Northern Territory’s Kamfari Mud Race, as Williscroft again took top honours at the Darwin based event.

Semi retired from racing, Williscroft’s main job these days is heading up Motorex KTM Off-Road Racing as Team Manager, yet the racer within him still sees the New South Welshman take to miscellaneous off road events like the A4DE, Kamfari and soon the Finke Desert Race.

Commenting on his win Williscroft said, “I wasn’t going to ride in Kamfari this year because it conflicted with rounds 3-4 of the Australian Off-Road Championship at Conondale, and I had Race Team Manager duties at this round for Motorex KTM Off-Road Racing. Then word came that the tracks around Conondale were too wet so the event would be postponed opening up an opportunity for me to return to Kamfari and defend my title.

“There was going to be a lot more competition this year with a strong local line up entered including Daniel McGuiness, Jason Hill, and Chris Warwick plus Victorian riders Mark Sladek and Jehi Willis.

“It was a very short turn around to get me entered into the event, so I called in all my resources for help, and KTM dealership NT Motorcycle Centre, were first on the case by providing me with a ready to race KTM 450 EXC, the bike that I have won on in this event for the past three years.

“It was a shot gun start, and I got to the first corner in around fourth place. I tucked in behind the race leaders, and settled in at my own pace. I made a few little mistakes on the first lap which dropped me back to seventh, but I managed to find my rhythm, and work my way up to the race leaders again. At this time Jason Hill was leading, and I made a pass on him about 1km from the end of the first lap. From there I took the lead and didn’t look back.

“I was making decent gaps on the competition, and constantly searching for new lines to stay out of the big bog holes. I had a regular pace going of approx 20 minutes a lap, and the event was four hours long, so I was happy with my consistency.

“A lot of other competitors were having bike problems getting bogged in the muddy terrain, but I was able to avoid any mishaps like that, and I ended up lapping up to second place by the finish of the race. The KTM 450 EXC was handling the muddy conditions with ease, even when I had mud and water up to my seat. The performance and reliability of the bike hasn’t let me down four years running, while others have struggled to make it to the finish. They’re built tough and perfect for the harshest enduro conditions.

“I couldn’t have claimed my fourth consecutive Kamfari win without the help of all my sponsors and personal supporters, some of which who went the extra mile to help me get into this event; including NT Motorcycle Centre, Darwin Motorcycle Club, Force Accessories, Wired up electrical, Specialised labour & engineering, Quality cool, and Brendan and Kylie Walsh for accommodating me at their place in Darwin.

“Once again the support from the Darwin locals and media was amazing, so I’m thankful for everyone getting behind me, and KTM as I crossed the finish line.

“At presentation I was ecstatic and thrilled to claim another title, but it was here I was informed of the sad news of fellow KTM rider Andrew McFarlane passing away after a tragic accident at the Australian Motocross Championship. I was immediately struck emotionally by the news of losing such an ambassador of the sport. My deepest sympathy goes out to Andrew’s family.”

Brad Williscroft will now re-group with Motorex KTM Off-Road Racing to continue training and testing throughout May for a big racing calendar ahead in June, with the 2010 Finke Desert Race coming up on the June long weekend, plus rounds 5-6 of the AORC.

Would you believe I missed the whole event! I was oncall for the weekend and the race area was out of range of the phone.
Being a long weekend up here there was no one who would swap with me :'(

Every thing I've heard so far has been good and I plan to race the event next year, just like I planned to race this one ::)

There are some photos here

Kamfari set for 40th birthday on May 1st

You all signed up and entered Brentj..... ;D   8)

Finke Desert Race legend Jason Hill will sponsor the 2011 Kamfari in Darwin through his business 'Precision Motorcycles' the local Honda, Husqvana and Polaris dealer, promoters the The Darwin Motorcycle Club have revealed.

The Kamfari is a four-hour Enduro event held in the swamps and natural bushland near Darwin. Riders are not allowed any help and must carry and tools and spares with them, the 2011 edition will take place on May the 1st .

The idea originally arose in 1970 at a club barbecue when a few members decided to organize a 100 mile "Mud Race" which would push the rider and their machine to the limit and therefore become the ultimate challenge.

The Kamfari was first run in 1972. For the first fifteen years the event was held on the flood plains surrounding the Adelaide River opposite Fog Dam, known as Kamfari Park.

It then moved to Palmerston at Marlow's Lagoon and then out to Howard Springs.

Last year the Kamfari was back at its old venue; a disused sand pit and swamp area near Black Jungle, south of Darwin. This year, the 40th running of the race it will be held in the same area again.

Enduro star Brad Williscroft has made this event his own, hogging the winners' podium for the past four years.

Kamfari Director; Clint Holmes confirmed the prize money is over $10,000.00 for this year's event, with $3,000.00 up for grabs for the first bike over the line.

For more info, supp regs are up on the web site: www.darwinmotorcycleclub.org or you can phone Clint           0408 894127

I'm still at work and we are trying to keep an overloaded sewer system running. I've got the house prepared and I'm heading home soon.

It's raining lions and bears (bigger than cats and dogs) and the underneath of my house was awash when I left this morning.

Our little back yard fish pond is now 1.5M deep and 15M accross!

Good luck Brent. If it gets too bad and the house starts to float, just anchor it to the 500...   ;D

Thanks guys,

The cyclone is only cat 1 and appears to have turned back over land. It's ok for now but the projected track has it going back out to sea in a day or so. The weekend could be good or bad...................
All the bikes are chained to the house downstairs just in case! even the 500's.

We haven't had much wind so far but the rain is incredible, even for Darwin.

Ali, I had hoped to ride the KAMFARI this year (just like I hoped to ride it last year!) but I can't see it happening. We've even had to cancell our sign-on/fun day this weekend as it's too wet to even get to the track!
