I wonder why it is that the front hubs are the same, but the rims are different ?
I might get one (if its cheap enough) and see how it goes.

The 83 models had thirty six normal spokes.
84 model YZs had the infamous Z-spokes with 32-hole rims - Zedder has the two years of YZ250 swapped around.
FWIW, the 23X front hub is operationally identical to the earlier conical hubs (322, 1K7, 2A6 types) - all four types take the same bearings, spacers, brake plates/shoes and spokes.
