MC 250 Engine M 321 Frame Number 330 ID and parts ????
« on: January 16, 2011, 09:38:58 pm »
Dear Gents,

Have come into close contact with a 250 Maico which has the frame and engine number prefixes of M 321 ..... and Frame of 330 ....

Tank is alloy coffin shaped. Down Pipe, forward leaning rear shocks. Red frame? Akront mudless rims. Conical humbs with Crome plated spokes?

Can anyone confirm what is is and if so would we have a photo of what is should really look like.

What is the story with parts? especially engine parts - pistons - rods etc and plastics

any help would be appreciated.

ta Pete

Pete, I think it is a 1977 MC250/5 AW. Parts are no problem to get as there are lots of Maico parts dealers around.
I have a 400 of the same year that I bought new in late 76 and it also shares that same frame prefix of 330.
If you don't want it please let me know as it would make a nice pair to mine, but a great model though.

Thanks Stan for the good news. I was told it was  a 1975 model. so 77 is better I spose. anyone got an original picture of one to check for nasties. What should a bloke pay for a good rebuilt - - race ready one of these things?

Pete,
this was my MC400 the day I bought it in November 1976 and then a couple of months later after I had fitted a Wheelsmith up pipe and different tank stickers.

Stan,

That would be it. It looks the same. This one still has the down pipe in tact. Thanks for original pics. My young bloke has now decided it is a good thing and wants to run it in pre 78 Heaven rounds. Wants to settle a few scores with some of my aged mates. So on the trail for parts now.

Many thanks Pete

Pete,
I'm glad to hear your son's going to have a crack on it (although I would be happier if it was going to my place ;D)
Set up right the AW 250 is a rocket and I saw Neil Hudson make everyone on open class bikes look silly at Wonthaggi back in 77.

Stan.

Stan,

That's what he wanted to hear.  Any go fast Maico 250 tips you blokes can throw our way will help the young blokes enthusiasm to ride a bike 17 years older than he is.
