Advice needed
« on: January 18, 2011, 09:29:44 pm »
I have a RM 400T and recently I took my crankshaft to br rebuilt at Serco in Brisbane. Alan rang me up a few days ago and told me I may need a new rod as it has two pit marks in the big end. I contacted a few suzuki dealers and they don't have any NOS rods and it looks like I may have trouble finding one. Serco did say that if I cant find a new rod they can use my old rod but does not know how long it will last. As I will not be racing the bike he said it may last a few years or maybe for ever, who knows.

Any advice on whether I should use the rod I have?

Bore out the eye and press in a new ground and hardened ring. Done it heaps of times when rods have been NLA. Not sure if theres enough meat in the RM rod though. whats the ID & OD?

measuring with digital calipers? ;D
Sure that's not a 18mm gudgeon ?

A KTM 360/380 has a 135mm rod but 17mm big end width see if Serco have some 2.5mm wide thrusts? If no BBI in Perth will have them.

Hmmm wonder why Serco can't do this type of thing?
