Old American photos
« on: July 26, 2009, 01:22:31 am »
Team Wogs Rob Langlands passed this wonderful collection of '71-76 USA mostly West Coast race shots. It's a challenge to identify as many of the riders as you can. Who knows, I may be in there somewhere as I raced at Carnegie and Saddleback during that era and NO, I'm not the 'portly' guy on the DT2MX  :o.
My favourite shot is the photo from the Menlo Park track that was as close as you'd ever get to racing at a toxic waste dump. I visited there to watch and drink some beer back in the mid 70's with the idea of entering the next event. The place freaked me out and smelled something like the old Menai did..an unmistakeble odour of toxic slime, old engine oil and drums full of hospital waste festering away in the sun, no kidding. Mt mate Russell and I 'reluctantly' decided not to race there, in fact we never went back. A few months later an article in Cycle News described some poor racer getting an eye infection from the place that was so bad he lost his eye I seem to remember.

However, that's only one photo in a sea pf absolute gems never seen before. I apologise if they've been featured before but if they have, I missed them.

Good find, lot of good photo's in their.
I wonder if their "Mom" knows what happened to her nice floral couch  :D
I think I saw you in their Firko, were you the streaker ;D

I'm normally a fan of close ups, they let you see the riders stance in a corner or a jump, but theirs a lot to be said for photo's that show the background, none more so than old photo's.

Some of those photo's reminded me of Indian Dunes.

Noticed lots of guys with camera's around their necks in the background, their must be shoeboxes of good shots around the globe.
