could these be Original grips ?
« on: January 23, 2008, 12:06:16 am »
I was messing around downstairs tonight moving with one of my bikes and noticed on it the shittist grips i have ever seen, but before i throw them out, im now having second thoughts incase they are the originals.

They are like a solid piece of rubber with a  raised section under the fingers, even a hint of water and your hands would be off them in one slip, so they look too stupid to be After market, but i want to be sure before they hit the bin down the track.  this bike is very original so it wouldnt surprise me if they are the original 74 MXA yamaha kit ?

or are they just some other cheap grip out the 50c parts bin ? :-\

99.98% sure that these are not originals. The originals were a waffle pattern. Your hand wouldn't slip off the originals. They were so hard you would have blisters after two laps....or was the front suspension ::) ;) :D ;D

They look like well worn Dohertys. They're actually a good grip when new. The American flat track blokes loved 'em back in the day.

I got a stored  mx 360 with the waffles like the ols school push bike ones,

but these just looked to Odd to be an improvement they are really rubbery and as i said plain all round ecexpt for a raised channel under the fingers.  I could see them being oK on  a circut bike but water and jumps and on your arse id say. If im over near that bike next ill take another look and see ifn its got a makers stamp, you could be right firko.

The originals should look like this......

Correct if I'm wrong Adam. I think the YZ and MX were the same. Not only were they a rough pattern, tough - more plastic than rubber and as hard as nails - like riding with a handfull of razors in ya gloves :P. They were amongst the first things you would change - the bike didn't even leave the show room floor without these and the tyres been changed  8)

Bidding starts at $50US  :o

Your's like more like these rather than Doherty's

I think these are Doherty's or copies there of. These were my favourite of the period but I use to slice out every second rib.

That's them MX250.

All the MX and YZ's up to 1975ish run the waffle pattern and the later 1976 yz's and TT's and up to about 1978 run the ones like in your second photo.

These are origionals on one of my unrestored YZ360A's.

Part number: 322-26241-00 left
                  322-26242-00 right

I've seen these grips go for serious money on ebay especially the left as there seems to alot more right's poping up from time to time.
