Hot Tips for TT250s?
« on: December 24, 2010, 10:25:26 am »
My mate gezza has taken delivery of a neat little 1980 TT250, a bike I've never really seen before. We have plans to get it tidied up and sorted for 2011, aiming to do some 4-stroke class races as well as Vinduro (and I guess take her to CD8).

So, anyone got any hints on these things? I have some spare IT175G forks to slip on and will try to fit up an IT175G shock as well. Engine wise, we plan to build a new header and dump that into a nice little muffler, thereby freeing up the breathing a bit and saving what looks like 250kg of unsightly junk. On the inlet side we'll toss the stock airbox and fabricate something nicer around a Uni Filter pod type filter. That alone should be good for about 65HP at the rear wheel I'd reckon.  ::)  What's the word on these engine wise? Are the pistons etc easy to find? Are they reliable? It looks like a mini TT500 engine, and those things go forever.

Just about everything XT250 will fit and they made the two-valve XT250K for about 10 years so bits are easy to get, you can also machine the cylinder opening in the crankcase to accept the BW350 barel and head, the crank also fits as it is the same diameter but 9mm longer stroke, hot cams for warrior and bigbear 350's (from 1987) are readily available and their specs match what megacycle offer for the TT at a much cheaper price  ;). The forks only need the IT175G springs in them to match the IT's forks anyway. If you want a speedo (mines going onto the IT) heres what I'm doing with a cheap DT175 sppedo.....

Fitted with one of these (plus the apprpriate rubber dampers)
