Pretty much - they do all run a 46mm piston/50mm body OD, but there are the expected differences in OD due to various spring rates, and differences in ID due to some of them being progressive rate springs.
78 have steel body, 79 went to alloy & shorter body.
80/81 were "USD" (shock body at the front of the bike, shaft at the back) with a remote gas cannister and shorter again.
81 has ribbed adjuster knob rather than the 80's smooth one. The earlier ones had an alloy adjuster that you're supposed to use a screw driver or something to operater through a hole in the frame.
