Could someone direct me to a source of SWM info? e.g. how to identify models etc
Any online info most welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Also, any idea what this is?
Apparently a 1977 250 with a YZ front end (comes with original front end) and ATK countershaft rear brake setup.

I think It's a TF1 1979/80 Maybe with the steel tank.
This is a 77/78. It has the straight swingarm.

This is a 79/80.

Excellent! Thanks for the info. He did say it had a steel tank, so it sounds like you're on the right track. I'll know more when I pick it up next week. With the rear brake setup, I figured I'd have to spent a little bit to get it back close to stock.

What numbers should I be looking for to identify the year?

I was hoping it was actually '77 so it would be Pre '78 legal. No matter, it's still an interesting (to me at least) Euro Enduro.

It should say on the frame TF1 or RS-GS.

btw The owner claims it has a 305cc kit fitted. Is that feasible?

Yes it could be a 305. Canams ran a "350" model too. I forget which piston can be used otherwise but it can bump the cap to about that.

I'm not familiar w a 305 kit/engine but the 350 rotary v/v engine is just the long stroke crank w an oversize piston from the earlier short stroke engine & is only about 276cc (76 bore x 61 stroke IIRC) - sometimes called (more accurately) a 280

Seems like you're on the money, JC.

Thanks to Jerry, I got a copy of the Classic Dirt Bike article on them that claims that the first TF1 was a 1980 model and was also the first one in orange.
Seems to add up as the original forks that came with it are orange as are the original footpegs.

Without any numbers though, it's hard to prove exactly what it is but I'd reckon 1980 TF1 would be pretty close.

At least I know it doesn't fit into pre 80 if I choose to ride VMX on it at all.

Nice find. I had a 78 RS-GS250 for a while. Suspension, handling & brakes were sweet. Engine was as crisp as a trials bike down low, but had a king-hit at about 7000rpm. Fastest 250 twinshock in a straight line that I ever rode, but that king-hit made it a bit of a handful in the bush.

However it had the short stroke engine & the long stroke engine (you have) was said to tame that. So will the extra capacity I should imagine

FWIW, I've just seen a guy in Italy selling a 1977 250GS and it has the bendy swingarm like mine.

So maybe it is pre 78 after all!!
