electronic ignition for cr250m
« on: September 28, 2010, 11:28:42 pm »
OK Here goes i have an electronic ignition from a 1982 cr125 this engine fires clockwise and the stator is mounted on the right
i want to fit it to a 1974 cr250m the stator on this is mounted on the left side and fires anti clockwise
so when i strobe the system up the timing is always 180 degrees out as the flywheel is picking up signals from the secondary coil before the primary does any one know how to overcome this problem
Regards

Be carefull, when swapped from one side to another I have seen the ignition curve go backwards, ie retard instead of advance!!

tried all that if i move the flywheel 180 degrees the strobe shows a spark also 180 degree out i think the only option is to flip the stator so the outside is on the inside so to speak. At the mo no matter what i do i am allwqays 180 degree out of sync

had same problem using a early RM125 electronic ignition, went from a/clock l/h to clockwise r/h side, mirrored (transposed???) the coils, even used a clockwise rotor, bloody sparked, but no way would it run ???,done my head in bigtime, went back to points flywheel maggy, :P
work, the curse of the racing class!!
if a hammer dosn't fix it,you have a electrical problem!!

Might have to do what Sir Brad a lot did with one of his engines. He made the rotor fit 'backward' and mounted the stator to the ignition cover, that way it still spun anti-clock wise. Which is I think Honda did with the RH chain drive models?????

This Is why I like DC/DC ignitions ;)

With our cr250M, we used a 74 125 ignition, mounted onto the 250 backing plate.

What Brad did is what you need to do to fit suzuki ignition to a CZ, think of it has pushing everything straight through the engine & out the other side. The flywheel is mean to be against the cases on them with the points etc in the sidecover accessible by another cover. Something tells me it wouldn't be so simple on the honda unless you can work out a way of mounting the stator to the ignition cover or can make a custom cover
