OSSA Phantom

With the dollar approaching parity this Phantom (and other US imports) looks to be an attractive buy. The OSSA Phantom is arguably the hottest ride in pre '75 250 and this one looks to be a well set up race bike as opposed to a shiny trailer queen. I'm not sure of the flow on status of the '75 model...is the swingarm the only major difference from the '74 or is it a big ask to claim flow on status? I've emailed OSSA legend old Phil Young to see what's different and if a '75 can be easily and legally converted to '74 specs.

1975 Ossa Phantom 250. Race ready, two races on rebuilt crank with Yamaha rod conversion, new bearings/seals, fresh top end, new second and third layshaft gears as well as GP1 tranny upgrades. Fresh fox shocks and fork springs. Hoss airbox with new filter, swingarm bushings replaced, tank caswell coated and much more. Fix to one fork leg does not leak. Comes with original Hoss fenders (pic shows what bike looks like with these) $2300

I saw that one for sale and it's not quite what it seems.  It is advertised as a '75 model (GPI) but it doesn't appear to have a GPI frame/swingarm.  the GPI has laydown shocks and the top mount is further forward than as pictured on the advertised bike.  The whole frame in that area looks wrong, for a GPI.  It seems to be a '74 model frame, with the shock mounts on the swingarm moved forward a bit.  Not sure whether it is a '74 aluminium swingarm (painted black) with mounts moved forward or a GPI CrMo swingarm with moved forward mounts.

Similarly, it is strange that he's saying that the bike has GPI gearbox updates, as it wouldn't need them if it was a GPI, if you get my drift.  Also, the fork legs appear to be '74 not '75 (some, not all, '75 models had a rib on the forkleg).

Regards

Ken
