The VR has a set of Mullholland shocks which need a rebuild ( pitted shafts, leaking). Are rebuilt Mulhollands better than a set of new Betors off ebay? I have noted there is often pairs for sale on ebay from spain, but not currently. Thoughts?

Also, after buffing the fork legs I layed them down for a week and oil has leaked out the breather holes. I thought I would drain them and re-fill. Does anyone now the volumne is required per leg?

If you could rebuild your Mulhollands I reckon they'd be a great period shock to have on it. I don't know what they'd be like performance-wise. Probably be a pain in the arse to do though. Of course the Betors would be closer to what they came out with.
I think if you're going to be racing it however you're going to want something that can be serviced easily and and perform on a track. YSS, Ohlins or Works Performance would be your best first options. If you go for YSS you can deal with Walter directly here in Australia.

The fork caps can be serviced if they are the Betor caps with a small screw on the inside. They have a small spring loaded ball check valve inside which sticks when left for ages or the spring breaks. These caps where used on the trials bikes as well.

The check valves are bit like the modern bleed valves (there is rarely something truely new developed) they allow air to escape to save your seals.

Worth checking.

The re-build is going to be pretty much the same money as new Betors, if the seller has any left. The other options are obviously quite a bit more cash.

I have seen the 'Progressive Suspension' shocks that inexpensive. Has anyone had experience with these shocks?

When I remove the the fork caps do they 'spring out'? Or are they in some sort of carrier?

Any idea on fork oil volumne?

The caps just unscrew and pop out.  The VR forks take
6 3/4 oz of fluid per leg.

Mulhollands ARE rebuildable. They are also adjustable be adding or removing shims but they were not meant for MX but road bikes. They are sufficient for trials but will fall woefully short for mx because of their limited cooling capacity.

After much indecision I decided on 340mm Betor MX shocks. Thought it best to go with orginal(ish) parts. In the end cheaper than rebuilding the existing shocks and should suit the bike betor (pun intended)

The Betors Arrived today! ; I was going to put the singarm back on the frame (all just powdercoated) so I could get the shocks on but just remmbered I need to get a new set of swingarm  O rings,$%$#! 

I was intending to add a photo but the 'add image' does'nt seem to work?
