XR75 KO????????
« on: January 15, 2008, 07:42:22 am »
Honda guru's. Can anyone tell me please how to ID an XR75 as being a KO model, what frame numbers should it have? I was lucky enough last night to swap an old Suzuki 125 ag bike for these XR75s. The bubble tank XR's original engine ( im told ) is in the red 77 model frame. Im fairly sure the older bubble tank bike is a genuine KO model but need some guidance from those in the know.
I have done web search yet didnt find anything that helps. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Frame # XR75 1008534.
Engine # XR75 1008741.

Hi ya Quicky
No doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong............  ::)
But I'm fairly sure that K0 models started with numbers XR75-10........
K1's were XR75-11.......
K2's were XR75-12.......
And so on.
So it does seem like you have a K0.  ;D

Thanks Tony.
What you say seems to make perfect sense. I just checked my K2 and indeed the numbers are XR75 12, also checked on 3 x 77 rollers I have here ( anyone have spare engine ? ) and they are all XR75 14. I thought having 3 x 1977 K4s if was to be any number discrepancies in your system they would show it. In light of this check id say your right on the ball with your number system.  ;D ;D

UPDATE

Thanks to lot of help from my daughter currectly on school hollidays we have dummyed up the KO with all the parts we could find that belong to that model.
In the process tried fitting K4 airbox and decovered that a K4 airbox will not fit. On the plus side the tank is straight, is still shinny inside and has no rust . Remains of the original grey paint still under it so now have a sample to try get a colour match.
Seat base also in fantasic rust free condition, fork legs also fine. Rims not so great with rear being the worst. Spokes are not up tpo the grade. Frame is good without any cracks or non factory welds.
We had engine running this morning in the other frame and shes a little beauty. No smoke, no top end rattle's but does have slight clutch rattle.
I intend to peice the bike together and once have all the parts take it out for few hours ride just check engine is as good as it sounds, then the bike pull down for a complete restoration.

Another little unknown fact that you have a genuine KO is to look for the date stamp on the under side of the rear frame brace (left hand side) where the back of the airbox mounts to the frame, it should be stamped with a date from around OCT 72 on wards, only XR75 K0's had the date, it will tell you the day the frame was made.

XR75 engine numbers are normally within first hundred number range of the frame number.
K0 10xxxx =73
K1 11xxxx =74
K2 12xxxx =75
K3 13xxxx =76
K4 14xxxx =77
K5 15xxxx =78

Betric.
Now you know after reading your reply I just had to fly outside and lay the bike over to check. ;D ;D Sure enough there are numbers their. They are 723921. No idea about the 3921 but does 72 tell us shes a 1972 model?

Cheers Quicky.

The tank on your dummy looks very like an SL70 one. try the other skinny tank. Good score!!!!Tim
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Bubble is right i think, still has original sliver/grey on the underside. Found few KO pic's on net they too have bubble tank. K1 was first to have slimline tank in the same or close to grey/silver colour on the KO. I could be wrong but thats what ive noticed while doing a little research.

Yes im very happy with the score. It was offered to me for cash but since that is in very sort supply at moment and owner claimed to only want bigger bike for his kids I thought id try the swap thing, bugger me it worked. Everbody is a winner. Im happy, they are happy.  ;D ;D

The XR75 K0 fuel tank is the same tank as the SL70 BUT the under side of the tank is a different shape, an SL70 tank will not fit an XR75 as it does not have the clearance for the Ing coil, but a XR tank will fit the SL70
XR75 K0 were first made in late 72 but were a 73 model, my father brought the last XR75 K0 in Sydney in mid Oct 73, a week later I saw my first XR75 K1 at Meni while out their riding.

Are you sure that the 3 is not a 0 I think it is was built 21-09-72, PM your email address an I will send photo's of XR75 K0-K1 etc also can help with advice ;D
I have not figured out how to post photo's on the forum yet, their is a photo of my K1 at the Crawford River Classic from last year that the web master posted on the competion forum.
