Steens mini

It's funny how things turn out. My old mate Bob Neilson had a Steens Hodaka 100 mini bike for sale for $300 on Marks Swapmeet this morning. Wanting a pitbike for next years CD/Bonanza season this little bike ticked my 'something different' 'custom framed' and 'Pitbike' boxes. Unfortunately it sold within the first 10 minutes of being listed so I missed out. No probs.
An hour later I rang Jonesy to tell him of my missing the deal and he replied...."no worries, I'll let you have my spare roller for what it owes me". Turns out that when he bought his own Steens Hodaka he got a spare frame, tank and forks with it. They're now mine!

Instead of trying to find a Hodaka engine I'll use a Suzuki TS90 engine from my stash of Honcho stuff. I'll most probably use Honcho wheels and forks as well to simplify the build. I'd been considering building an electric motored Yamaha GT80 but being a big lump of a boy I'd have looked like Humphrey B Bear riding a circus bike. The Steens are 16" wheeled three quarter sized minis so I'd fit on it a hell of a lot better.

Here we go again, another bloody Frankenstein project. I love this shit.

Yeah Paul, the Benelli project is bubbling away. I just got a new tank from the States and Bob Neilson's found me a rare 18" Morris magnesium back wheel which is on its way with Alan's Redline Honda. Alan is putting the final touches to his Nourish Weslake 850 flat tracker as well. We're both planning on the big twins debuting at the Bonanza. I've also made a start on the Antig Maico 250 slider which I'll also take to the Bonanza.

Hey Firko . if you can find a Tas Tora in a wreckers they have the same 16 inch rims .
They also have the Hodie hubs as opposed to the Steens / Alsport pressed metal items .

I might also have a Hodie 100cc engine floating around if you feel like rebuilding it ?

I might even be able to help with an immaculate original seat also .
The guards are easy to get NOS as is the tank .
 
I have got one of these Steens/Alsport Hodies and due to the small size and weight of the bike they haul really well , so stick with the plan and fit the Hodie engine and bits and pieces ....

Wouldn't you know it....here we are thinking we had some pretty unique little odballs and up you pop with one. I believe Steve Bysouth has a Steen Hodie as well. Thanks for the offer of the Hodaka engine but I have a love of these little TS Suzuki 90/100 engines and this is the pefect mount for me to use up my stash of NOS engine parts. I bought a Hodaka ACE 100 from Craig Eckhert but he lives in the backblocks up North and it's become geographically too hard yo pick it up.
Alan's supplying a NOS tank and guards with the bike but I like your wheel option. If anyone has a set of Tas wheels, let me know. How much do you want for the seat? The brown thing on the bike is a tad on the ugly side................

While we're on the subject of Steens Hodakas, Jonesy's looking for a Torque Engineering pipe to suit a Steen Allsport Hodaka F100 as shown in the photos below. Perhaps a Torque pipe that fits a Hodaka is the same but I'll leave that knowledge to those who know this stuff.

This is the exact pipe Alan needs. The two pipes that came with his bike are different and look a little hokey.

Alans Steen Allsport F100. This is the deluxe model that features fibreglass "aerodynamic" bodywork and other little trim differences. Alan's bike came from the USA with a set of the optional leading link forks which are now fitted to the bike. The above forks are going on mine.
