PE400 Muffler Mounts
« on: August 11, 2010, 07:48:22 pm »
I have attempted to buy mounting brackets to attach the muffler to the frame on a PE400 I am working on and it appears they are no longer available. Can someone advise me what to do. Are the mounts still available somewhere (haven’t seen any come up on Ebay) or is there a known standard way to get around this?

I have attempted to point out what is required on the photo below

Any ideas would be appreciated

The PE yahoo group should see you right, plus you can get drawings that would allow you to fabricate a good as OEM bracket too.

The T bracket is different to the X and Z. You have a T frame with one mount so you need the T bracket. Have you checked the PE forum in the CAD section? There might be a CAD drawing of the muffler brackets. i know it was on the 'to do' list but not sure we got it done as the CAD drawer has been busy with other commitments. They are pretty easy to make anyway. I'd say keep looking out on ebay or at bike wreckers.

Ok I had a look on PE yahoo but was unable to locate the CAD drawing. I think I should be able to fabricate something up but my concern is more with some rubber cushioning. Can I bolt up the mount to the frame rigid ie metal to metal? if not what do you recommend.

Standard FRONT expansion chamber 'figure of 8' style cushioned mounts from the RMs and PEs can be pretty useful in situations like this, and Fox RMs back in the day used them for this very job....then its just a case of a small flat alloy bracket maybe and some spacers on your fasterners. These mounts are always available on ebay, or if you want to go all bling and spend lots of money, some places (eg http://amsracing.com/alloy.php) sell 'billet' replacements for CRs etc.

No dont mount it rigid, has to be rubber mounted you could simply do it with a steel plate and some rubber bushes cut out of some thick rubber sheet and a hole punch or if you got to a rubber place you ca buy rubber washers. Yeah i looked and no drawing for the mounts. I will try and remember to look at a mount tomorrow and if i can see it wont take me too long to measure up i will do a quick drawing but i cant promise anything.

I had a look and only found 81/82 mounts. Im sure i had a 80 mount though because i reckon i swapped a speedo bracket for one with somebody. I will have to have another look but if i dont have one it mesans i will need one for my 1980.
