KTM 250 - 1982 -- I need more brakes
« on: November 13, 2007, 06:28:42 am »
So, there I was, up against this Husky 500. He could launch out of a corner better than me, but I seemed to have the legs on him by the next corner, but with precious little brakes, I lost time again and again....

Any suggestions welcome

Trevor

Easy mate, don't hit the pics until you see Jebus, then flick it in!

I dunno much about your bike but I assume you have drums. First and foremost, get your drums machined so that they are round. Seriously. Then get shoes bonded to suit the new drums. You'll be stunned at the difference. While your at it replace your front cable with a nice sweet new Venhill feather lite (is that how ya spell it?) Get some positive feel back. I don't know where you are but here in Brisvegas Solo Tooling has a lathe with big enough swing that you don't even have to unlace your hubs and he can get the shoes bonded to suit.

I had this done to a husky a while back and it was significantly better. But still not a disk brake..... ;D ;D ;D

Go for an EBC shoe and bed them in as the original KTM ones where manufactured to never wear out!. Or go for later twin leading shoe setup.

Yup reseated and new cable on its way.

OR, you could just take a bigger weapon to the gunfight.
In this case, I found a 500XC Desert Racer - YEAH BABY !!

This one NEEDS more brakes too. Shoes have been redone, cable on its way together with the suspension rebuild and rim service.

This is going to be good, real good. The days of that 4 stroke are numbered I tell you.
There again, I know there's a Katoom 495 being rebuilt around here as we speak. Watch this space.
