PE250B
« on: July 17, 2010, 08:38:44 pm »
Hey fellas, I've just pulled the barrell of my PE250B that I got going for CD7 (bought it at Xmas for a grand) because the old girl was rattling it's head off (piston slap) and I didnt want to bust a piston. Anyway, low and beholds it's on STD bore (bike is incredibly original, right down to 90% of the nuts and bolts had never been undone?).....now I've got a first oversize piston kit to go in it so I was wondering if I should carry out any mods to it? I know that the pipe still has the restricter plate in it so I was going to cut it open and remove it or should I just put an RM exhaust on it?. Now the head, the combustion chamber is pretty big so again should I put a RM250B head on it? I love riding it and had one back in the day and it wasnt one of those supprise bikes that turns into a "shit, what was I thinking", I'm sure they rode better than that 33 years ago?, but the bike lacks top end power which I'm putting down to the pipe resticter. Any way, whats your thoughts?, cheers John.

Piston slap, you have to be kidding me right.  Bloody thing was rattling it's head off  ;D
They run a lot better with a bit of port work, change the reeds and de -coke the pipe and while your at it loose some wieght  ;)

Stewart is right - clean out the pipe, clean up the ports, stick in a decent reed valve and go for a thinner head-gasket. Once you have it cleaned up and jetted, see how it stands.
