Apparently the Husqvarna factory had to remove about 10 hp out of these things before the next white tanked model 500 was released just to make them ridable*. I'm not really a Husky guy but I'd love one of these babies just for mucking around on and to sit and look at. I know it's a big statement but these buggers really are as wild as the legend describes them. They're also (IMO) the prettiest bike Husky ever made. Husky Pete will also have his at CD7 as well which will mark the first time that I'll have seen two of them in the same paddock.

*Maico were forced to do the same thing after people started hurting thremselves on the first batch of 501s. They reportedly knocked about 10hp out of them but in their kindness released a factory bulletin on how to restore the missing HP.

A friend of mine has one of these and i rode it a few weeks ago just after he got it. It has a big chunk of horsepower in the midrange that comes on with a rush compared to my 490 maico and i'd like to have another ride when it's sorted out better. You need a right arm like Popeye to open the throttle on that big 44mm mikuni.
Still a very cool looking bike.
