FIM - some radical changes
« on: December 22, 2007, 05:38:05 am »
Just thought some might be interested in this press release from the FIM.  There's some pretty radical changes to the MX (and Supermoto) GP classes, for 2010.  All classes 2 or 4 stroke -

MX1 has an undecided capacity, may be 350cc

MX2 has a 250cc capacity

MX3 has a 650cc capacity with multi cylinders

Lots of other interesting bits.

So does this mean that a 250 four stroke has to race against a 250 two stroke? (please God let it be true!!)

Wow, that's pretty crazy: Junior world champs = 2-stroke only (65, 85 and 125).
This might be the case already, but to have locked it in for 2010 and beyond is a BIG statement.
Wonder how Honda feels about that?

The MX2 class as under 23 only is weird - I can remember in the early 1990s when the 250 2-strokes were touted as being the premier class... And now those same bikes are restricted to the 'junior' adult class.
It will be interesting to see how the 250Ts fare against the 250Fs at that level.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

We already run 250 4's against 250 T2 at national level here and it works. Funny though, you would have thought the T2 would have cleaned up but I quess its all down to rider ability.
If at first you dont succeed, give up and drink beer

Interesting days indeed and bout time the whole thing was looked at.

I know at club level so many 450's are ridden by guys that are WAY out of their depth (bit like me on anything over 250 really, lol) with good young riders on 125's rounding them all up and beating em. Shave off 100cc and maybe they would have sweet ridable bikes with less hit - and on the rumour mill -  AMA in the States are also looking at 350 max cap, and strong talk of permitting up to 144cc Smokers to run against the 250F's ?

Also bring back 500cc two bangers, 40 min moto's, straights you get in top gear on, piss off the stutters and pass laws allowing the smacking around the mouth of smart arse young guys swearing and walking around with the permanent sneer.  :P
