Its a long shot, a young gun used to road race one around here in the mid eighties, and at one meeting the bike started no worries, but would not run anything over the pilot jet. Turned out the young bloke had re-packed the muffler, and in his desire to seal EVERYTHING up he used great lashings of silicone on the muffler/pipe joint, which ended up with a massive blob of silicone partially blocking the muffler. When muffler was taken off, bike was faultless, so you may be on the right track with the muffler. i assume the top end, reeds, carb etc are all ok?

Not long back I got my 125E motor rebuilt, top and bottom etc, and it would not rev out cleanly. After checking  carby, tank breather ,fuel tap filter, swapping coils and CDI's, and as it turned out, numerous other things- for example I found a rag in the fuel tank- don't ask me how! I was twitching every time I looked at it. One day , when grasping at straws ,I took the mag cover and noticed the the nut that holds the rotor was not on the shaft as much as the other RM sitting beside it- so I grabbed the rotor and wobbled it and sure enough it had both in and out movement and  was loose on the shaft/keyway. This is the way it came back from the engine builder. Tightened it properly and we both lived happily ever after...till next time!
