Brian's right. The 360 twin piper didn't oficially arrive until 1965. They're not allowed in the pre 65 class in Europe or here which to my thinking is a good indication of the release date.

I'll stand corrected Jim but I think the dates on this list for  the 969 model aren't right. They were officially announced in August 1964 issue of Czech Moto Revue as the designated 1965 model.. It's a similar scenario to that of the Mk8 Bultaco which was available in 1974 but is universally not accepted in pre '75 racing because it's the factory designated 1975 model.

I have an old magazine here(somewhere ) that I read not all that long ago. I am positive that it supports, that indeed there was no such thing in 1964. Only the 250.
I bought the mag for big money when the "budget pre65 debate" was rife last year. In an attempt to discover it there was any open class two bangers that might qualify. It has a five page spread about doing engine and transmission rebuild for the twin pipper. Is dated early 1965. There is no mention of the 360 in the specs anywhere.

No its not a 360 built before 65. There were some prototypes built in 64, they had the modified 250 Twinpipe cases. They also would have had the early fiberglass tanks, aluminum airbox. This eBay bike clearly has a steel tank.

That’s gold Jim. Thanks, one of the most enjoyable journalistic motorcycle articles I have read for a while.

I like the way it is written. Plain, clearly and simply. The dates at the top of the pages, make it even more interesting. It would be great to see one on the Pre65 dirt track, but I fear it wouldn’t matter what you were armed with. You would have more chance of getting an optional alloy factory s/arm for a RM-B accepted.

That bike in the US is starting to look as though it might indeed be a valuble legit peice of history. The missing link maybe. I will forever wonder now "when" it came from the factory?

It doesn't matter when it was built, they'll always be the factory designated 1965 model. The 8/64 Moto Revue article Jim linked even says it's a prototype. Pre 70 they are, despite being spititually pre 65 in everything but birthright. If the CZ360 TP is ever allowed in pre 65 I'll build a 360 Maico engined Sprite! Maicos are in the same boat. The 360 didn't come out until late 65.
