RM500 idle adjustment?
« on: March 01, 2010, 09:49:16 pm »
My 84 RM500 is running okay with all the jets now replaced with standard RM500 jets, but its seems to idle at fairly high revs, especially  after a ride. I like a two stroke to barely idle, not rev like the throttle is partly turned or the choke is on. There seems to be enough free play in the throttle cable, so that shouldn't be the trouble. Can't find any air leaks. There is no idle screw on a Mikuni flat carb, so I'm not sure what to try next. I can't actually reach the air screw; it is hidden behind the airbox, but I didn't think that controlled idle speed anyway. Maybe I'm missing something obvious; any other ideas I should try?

thanks,
Jady

Not that this has anything to do with my RM idle question, but here's an interesting article about RM carbs and fuel flow copied from an early 80s Motocross Action mag..
