My wife knows what the stuff is worth she's allways at me to sell some of it.

I just have a little clean out every now and then to keep her happy.

I look at it this way ....we are alive for a short time -and dead for a long time .So if you can afford it ,buy it and enjoy it .    The garage is big enough to house all me toys and more  ;) which includes two Holden Torana Hatchbacks
Firko ... From me Petrol head days  , I have a collection of  Super Chevy mags plus Street machine 1983-           1990 all in mint condition sealed  ;)

Okay,
No smart arse intended. Seriously.
Why do we collect something that we have no intention of using or utilising? Value (excuse the cliche') is in the eye of the beholder. Doesn't this make the fiscal value argument a little tenuous?  Anyone care to comment? Is it a pure emotional thing, as in surround ourselves in the familiar to preserve a sense of security, or a reflection of our modern excessive consumption approach?
I have to fess up to having a very small slide rule collection. And yes, I can't really qualify why. Mostly an appreciation of the quality.
I'm hoping this thread becomes a good one!

from the house of Kawasaki - a never had a needle on it complete collection of Hendrix LPs plus most of the sound tracks and weird other stuff he did. Just didnt like listing to it or anything else from the period on CD so I have a second play only set and a new "Dual" turn table.

There is an obsessive streak in all of of I guess.

This thread is gathering pace.

Slot cars, slide rules, LP's and now another confession - three crates of old (and I mean old) 78rpm records. We had a hoot one night during a long blackout by taking the 1929 Salonola wind up gramaphone out into the yard and playing Vera Lynn's 1940's "When the light come on again" - priceless !!!

I agree that we shouldn't place emphasis on the value of the items but it is still worth mentioning as it not only gives the reader an idea of what some things are worth but more to the point how prepared some of us are attain the 'Holy Grail' within a collection.

Are we all going to lob at CR's next year to have a go on the Scalectrix ???!!! - Cool

See you at the back of the pack in 08  ;)

I like to collect worthless rubbish and then throw it away 12 months before it becomes collectable and prices go through the roof.  They should have time capsules at the tip.

I also collect Buick boatail Rivieras, cutthroat razors (I use them) & Rotax 4 stroke powered bikes.  Oh, a Manx beach buggy some XT falcons.  Wait, I do have a flexi skateboard with Cadillac wheels and Detroit trucks. And a Stabb board.

I seem to have a lot of Jerry cans and petrol containers, so I must collect them too.   Carburetors.. I seem to find myself in old Harley shops in the U.S. where they give away 38-40mm Dellorto's and flatslide Mikuni's for $10-20.  Seem to have a lot of bald knobbies lying around, anyone know how to make garden swans? I must collect leaky shock absorbers too as I seem to have a milkcrate full.  I wont even start on tools.
