I think you will find that it is alloy and is the same as the B model tank which was standard in Oz. My 250B has a standard alloy tank. Some may have more factual info.

Yep alloy. As per the PE250B. I have one hanging in the shed as a some-day thing (want to add a few litres to it)

All UK bikes had to have them - don't know when they finally allowed plastic, but all the PE's up to 84 came with the alloy tank in UK. They turn up regularly, as you can imagine.

Have a look in the PE parts catalogues, and they almost always show an E02 option. (UK) up the back.

You are right Rod...just looked at a 250B brochure and it is the same tank  ::)
Obviously european laws require the alloy tank and not plastic.
Luke.....does that mean the backbone on the PE never changed (within reason)
Just getting itchy fingers with the PE floater hopefully in my possesion in the next couple of days to re-live my PE175X days  ;D
I even found a video tape that my cuz recorded back in '82 (it still had my "L" plate on it)when i loaned him my PE for the weekend.
I now have photos and film of me old beast!
cheers.....mario

Its actually not the same as the 250B tank but it is very close to it. The UK bikes also had different seats to allow the alloy tank. Theres not much difference, you can make the alloy 250B tank go on the 1980s models with some slight mods/fiddling around and still use standard seat.

.....I fitted a 250B alloy tank to my '80 PE250, just had to shorten the front of the seat by about an inch and a half.

are you sure?  it is listed as 44110-41400  for all the 250B / C / N's
I'm looking at pp24 of the PE250C parts catalogue.

I have always assumed it IS the same tank, squeezed onto the 175's too.
If I get a chance today, I will see if it drops in (imaging the alternate mounts) on my 175.

later ones are smaller capacity. I had a UK T/X one measured. They are not identical underneath either. Part number is 44100-40630-163 (tank E2)
