« on: March 08, 2010, 04:49:04 pm »
Hi' just wondering if anyone's used different material-or set-up (maybe bronze, poly or needles?) for swingarm bush's/washers in their 125-B or any RM with fiber type bush's for that matter ,is their any plus's or minus's in doing so? cheers

I am using phosphor bronze at the moment, I am always a bit suspicious of fibre bushes. Seems to be some good arguments for using bushes rather than bearings, given the bushes have greater load bearing area compared to needle bearings and do much better in dirty environments.

Problem with needles is that they need to rotate in a oil bath rather than the small amount of back & forward motion that they get in a swingarm pivot

On a 125 phospher or LG (leaded gunmetal) bronze is fine but on a more powerfull bike, especially 4 strokes where teh power pulses are stronger and further apart you're better off with Aluminium Bronze. The softer phospher and LG Bronzes will deform and extruded out under high loads.
I learned this from making gudgeon bushes for a drag bike many years ago.

cheers guy's sound's like the phosphor bronze is the go, try to keep away from needle's where possible ( extra maintenance and over-rated)  .Any preference on what to lube them with (water proof grease/ heavy oil/ teflon ? :)

any good grease, the actual RM-B swingarm bearing kit comes with a new grease nipple as part of the kit. Set it up with grease nipples and you don't have to dismantle to maintain it.

DON'T forget to use grey anti seize on  the swingarm bolt, saves a lot of fun later.

Hi marc, was the" bush(bearing?) kit" an oem suzuki after thought for the B model ?. were they just standard fibre bushs? was it just one centred nipple and did you need to drill the spacer or any other mods to allow grease to penetrate threw to spindle/bushs ,i'd rather keep the bike original if it was an aftermarket  or a later model thing.cheers
