I thought the 75 fuel tank slid under a bracket at the front and little rubber mounts screwed into the bottom at the back to mount it to the frame. and had 3 holes on the swing-arm were the shocks mount. Darcy

I was thinking that it looked like a late '74 model with a set of '75 (non external spring) forks on it . It appears to have a 4 speed motor (& I think that U407 is a '74 MC 400 motor number prefix), although the pictures aren't very clear . I don't know why the frame doesn't have the top shock mount gusset plates with the 3 holes . On the '75 (5 speed) motors, the clutch cover is more squared off at the back . Those Maico frame & engine number guides can never be treated as gospel, as it is pretty common to find bikes with numbers that are not listed . I seem to recall reading in a few different threads on a US Maico forum , that some of the last '74 model bikes came from the factory fitted with the new '75 style forks. These forks are not legal in pre '75 racing now though .

Looks like late 74 to me also, except for 75 forks, for same reasons Mark & Darcy mention above. But also, tho its a bit hard to see on the pics, the 74 double downtubes attached to the bottom backbone member just in front of the tank, whereas the 75 downtubes wrapped around the steering stem tube.
